Link to article: Video Poker Do's and Don'ts

From videopoker.com comes a good - albeit brief - article on the most basic video poker do's and don'ts for the beginning poker player.  Read these basic rules before you even think about playing in a casino for real money.

http://www.videopoker.com/learn/do_and_dont/

Friends often ask me HOW to pick a video poker game to play.  Where should they start?  I say to use the free online sites (like videopoker.com) to practice before you even get to a casino.  If you don't know what you're doing, you'll end up losing money quickly, and the experience will not be a satisfactory one.

Also, there are so many good tutorial video poker games for sale that will help you make the right choices for holding cards, and you can get a feel for the different types of games available.  Bob Dancer's selection of videos are especially good for this purpose.

If I had to give one piece of advice that's NOT included in the article, what would it be?  Never ask the gambler sitting next to you how to play a particular game.  Most serious video poker players find it offensive and annoying (it's just the way they are, don't ask me why).

Have fun and good luck!

NMchop's AMAZING continuous LIVE trip report: Link

He's at it again.

Our friend over at LV4E, NMchop, is on another whirlwind trip in Las Vegas.

Last summer he made it 3 1/2 weeks in Vegas, hopping around from hotel to hotel, free offer to free offer, not paying for any rooms and showering us with wonderful photos and daily live trip report updates while he stayed alive financially as long as possible. It was amazing. I can't imagine anyone else even beginning to attempt a trip like this...even once in their lifetime!

This year he started out in Reno on June 17th for the National Bowling Championships and went on to Lake Tahoe with friends where he contemplated flying on to Vegas or going home. He chose to go to Vegas, and he's still there. As I write this, it's July 6th, and he's booked at Palazzo for the next 3 nights. Who knows how much longer this will continue?

He's doing a lot more low-rolling than he did last year, so he could make it for quite awhile if he sticks to his budget and can put together the free room and free play offers at each hotel.

Here's a link to his trip report on LasVegas4Ever - very interesting!

Like playing video poker? Try Big Event Poker from WMS Gaming online!

Blonde4Ever (the web mistress at LV4E) just found a neat new game over at WMS Gaming: Big Event Poker. Yet another fun video poker game for me to get addicted to!

Here's the link for you to practice your video poker strategy - or just play for fun: http://www.wms.com/BEPoker/popup.html

It's always nice when you find some of the games that are available in Vegas (or soon will be) available on line. I love to try these things out before I go on my trips; that way I'll know whether or not I should give them any play when I get there!

Online Video Poker sites for fun or practice

Yesterday I added a couple of links to some popular slot manufacturers' websites, and I felt that the slot players out there shouldn't have all the fun.

Here are a couple of links to some online video poker sites. The first one, Governor of Poker, is a lot of fun and not quite as "serious" as you might expect a video poker site to be: http://www.agame.com/game/Governor-of-poker.html.

The second one requires you to register as a member/player, bit it also has a bigger selection of games for the more serious-minded video poker player. These games are indicative of the VP games you'll find in and around Vegas, and new games are added on occasion as they are developed. I play these when I want to brush up on my VP skills before I head out to Vegas, and I really like it: http://www.videopoker.com/

If you've never played VP before and want to try it out before you attempt to play in Vegas, I would recommend the VideoPoker.com website over the Governor of Poker website, but that's just a suggestion.

Our LV4E friend heads back to Vegas on a wing and a prayer...

Well, it looks like our LV4E friend NMchop is back in Vegas again, and just shy of three weeks after the last one!

Yes, he just left Vegas on July 12th after a total of 18 days. I said his last trip was him just "flying by the seat of his pants" - staying at various hotels on offers he had received and hopping from place to place as long as his bankroll held out.

He booked this trip prior to the last one and just never cancelled it; kind of a "wait and see" trip to look forward to with some friends. He would've had to cancel it with 72 hours advance notice to avoid paying a penalty, but he decided to let it ride and booked a last minute seat on a Southwest flight using one of his free ticket vouchers so he could meet up with his friends as he had originally planned.

It looks like it'll be another interesting story as he reports back to us with his day-to-day activities.

The value of freebies on a video poker trip - look at this!

Our friend in Vegas, NMchop, put a value to his comps and freebies so far on his Las Vegas adventure.

His total comps so far (not counting free drinks) comes to about $4,834 if you were to put it in dollars. Read his breakdown post here:
http://www.blonde4ever.yuku.com/topic/9923

He has been in Vegas since June 17th, and the amount of comps and free play he's received so far is becoming legend among our little group of Vegas fanatics.

Best of luck, NMchop! Hope you're still in Vegas for the big LV4E meet next Saturday.

The Las Vegas video poker run continues...

Over at LasVegas4Ever, the legend continues to grow...

Our friend in Las Vegas, NMchop, is still on his incredible video poker run.

After 11 days in Vegas, he's still holding his own and has posted more of his adventures - with pictures - in two new threads there:

We know he'll be in Vegas for at least 5 more days, because he has a comped room at the Flamingo later this week for five nights. Simply amazing.

Go check out his reports if you get the chance.

A wild video poker run in Vegas...

I am the proud member of an incredibly fun-filled Las Vegas message board called LasVegas4Ever. If they had cards, I'd consider myself a card-carrying member.

I spend a lot of time talking to my online friends on the board when I'm not doing family things or updating information here, and I've made some great friends who I'll talk about in another post. Right now, I want to tell you about an incredible run that one of the board members is currently on in Vegas.

His screen name is NMchop, and he left for Vegas last weekend with the intention of staying as long as his money and free room offers would last. He's retired, so he's not too worried about getting back to a job, and it's made for a great story so far. Before he left, he figured he could last at least three weeks with his offers of Free Play and free rooms from various casinos, and a bowling tournament for a diversion somewhere in the middle. The way the story's going right now, he could be there for months.

He checks in with the board every day, telling stories about his gambling wins and experiences from the day before and letting everyone know what his current plan is for his Vegas vacation. He has managed to hit Deuces Wild and four of a kind (4OAK) combinations multiple times on multiple machines, and on multiple days. In addition, he hit a Royal Flush on Thursday which has certainly helped to replenish his bankroll and will help keep him in Vegas for a little while longer. He continues to move around from hotel to hotel, depending on his offers, and I wish him the best of luck for the remainder of his stay.

Here are links to two of the "threads" (online topic conversations) about his incredible luck - with photos included - check them out:

I think it's one of the best lucky streaks I've ever heard of for a non-professional player. Amazing.
