Memorial Weekend Trip 2015

I have no cute title for this trip.  Just can't think of one.  Plus I didn't take nearly the number of photos as I usually do.  Perhaps I'm losing my touch?

This is trip number 30-something with my mom, and we stayed at Harrah's again.  We found out after the fact that we could check in ahead of time like I'd done previously at Flamingo, but the email went to my parents' shared email and my dad neglected to let us know.  Instead, he wrote down the confirmation number and deleted the email, and told my mom after we were home from the trip.  How helpful.  (I seriously wish I had a Sarcasm Font.)

Friday, May 22nd

Little did we know then that South Texas was just entering the "flood period", but it was raining while we were waiting for our late evening flight.  Interesting person sitting next to mom on the plane.  I think - I HOPE - she was either a dental hygienist or a dentist, because the disgusting photos of peoples' mouths that she was editing during the ENTIRE flight should only be used for dentistry.  Bleh...

Using mom's Platinum Total Rewards status, we got a Carnaval tower room with a view of the High Roller and used the Diamond Check In (us lowly Gold players get no such things), then put our stuff away and went in search of a snack.

The new Fulton Street Food Court is fantastic: choices of sandwiches, salads, soups, baked potatoes, pizza, frozen yogurt, snacks and drinks of all sorts.  We both just had soup, but it was GOOD and HOT.  I really liked the looks of the big salads and sandwiches, but I wasn't super hungry, so next time.  Also, we discovered that the bar area of the food court is converted into a restaurant during breakfast hours, so that is definitely convenient.  I was worried that there would be no option other than the buffet for breakfast now, but there it is.

Over to the Linq casino for some of my favorite True Blood slots.  NOT my best friends on this trip, anywhere!  I found the new Gold Fish 3 slots there, too, which I like more than Gold Fish 2 but not as much as the original Gold Fish.  Sometimes the original is the best, and change is not always good.  I also tried the Mad Men slots at Harrah's, and they were interesting and gave me some play.  I haven't decided if I like all of these new slots with the giant wheel, but they are not completely horrible.  I managed to stay up until about 2:30 a.m., so that's 4:30 a.m. San Antonio time, and not too bad considering that we have a new puppy at home, so I'd been up almost 24 hours.

Saturday, May 23rd

I could NOT sleep!  I was awake by 7 a.m., and tried to go back to sleep and/or keep quiet, but that didn't happen.  Mom and I were up, out, and on our way to the monorail by 9 am, where we enjoyed the MGM brunch buffet again, thanks to another myVegas reward.  Good as usual, but they didn't have our French toast casserole this time, which was disappointing.  More lunch options on the menu at 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. than last time, too.  I don't know if they're changing it or if that's just what they had that day.

I got to play the new Friends slot machine at MGM, and of course I love it because it's FRIENDS!  I sat next to a cute young girl who didn't know much about the TV show itself but who'd had a run of luck on these very machines the night before to the tune of $400, so we got along famously, and I was able to get three bonuses - the wedding bonus, and two of the same picking bonuses that I can't remember the name of but didn't do well on.  Still walked away with money doubled, so that's something.

Over at NY/NY, I found a Titanic slot that finally let me play AND get some bonuses, so I was able to play and enjoy it for awhile.  The only other time I've played Titanic was at the Venetian, where it sucked up my money and didn't give me anything in return.  Perhaps I like these.  I noted lots of Wonder Woman slots around, so much so that "Wonder Womaaaaannnnnnn!"  was going through my head most of the time, and I never played them because they were always full.

On to Monte Carlo.  I still absolutely love the feel of this casino and will end up staying there eventually.  I found the Ellen slots and played the one with the mystery boxes, and mom went around the corner and found the Dance Party version and proceeded to win $380 on it.  Go, mom!  I played out the money I won, unfortunately.

We used the Monte Carlo to Bellagio monorail to get back to our part of the Strip, and headed in to the Bellagio conservatory because I HAVE TO take photos.  I just do.  This was a much better display than they've had in the past few summers with an underwater theme that I enjoyed.  I only took daytime photos on this trip, but I will be back in 5 weeks and will take nighttime photos then.

I left mom playing Fireball while I took in the Faberge display at the Fine Arts museum using another myVegas reward.  It was one of the last days of the exhibit, and next up is Picasso from July through January 2016.  I'll be going to that one, too, but I'll wait until our September trip to go because I think it's not even going to be open until after my July 4th trip.  I enjoyed the display, and learned a lot of things about Faberge that I did not know, because I always assumed they made only eggs.  Not so.  Very pretty cloisonné parasol grips, animal miniatures, picture frames, and commemorative plates, among other things.  I still connect Faberge mostly with Czar Nicolas and his family, but I guess that's what I was raised on, so that's what I associate with it.  No photos, because they are not allowed.

On to Caesars Palace, where I should have just handed them my money instead of wasting time playing any slots.  OMG Puppies!, Elton John, and Lil Red - all poopers.  They took out my favorite Moo-La-Lah! machines there AND at Paris, so that makes me unhappy.  I usually love CP, but the lack of happy games and good bonuses made me ready to leave, so we headed to the Mirage.

At the Mirage, we discovered "Cash 'Em If You Can", and played a long while on these.  Kinda like Reel 'Em In, but more of those stacking wilds you find on the new Friends slots and the like.  I gave mom her choice of dinner locations, and she checked all the menus at Portofino, Stack, Japonais, and Fin before finally choosing Fin.  This was her favorite meal of the trip, and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Vegas.

Mom had Kung Pao Chicken, and I had Singapore Noodles.  My noodles had more "pow" than her chicken, but she loved the flavor.  My noodles were fantastic, and I cleaned the plate.  I also tried my only alcoholic drink with dinner: a Singapore Sling.  It was more alcoholic than anything else, and I liked my Zen Mojito from my previous visit much more.  That was truly a delicious drink.  If you dine there, I highly recommend the Zen Mojito and the Singapore Noodles, but I don't think any of the food could be bad.

After a little more gambling at the Mirage, we headed back over to Harrah's.  Phantom of the Opera was FINALLY showing me some love again, and I played for a long, long time and got tons of bonuses.  One of these days I'll complete the Masterpiece Bonus...

I played only one session of The Hangover on my entire trip on that night, and it was a bust.  That game will suck your money out soon quickly, and it did, so I gave up.  No bonuses at all.  I finally settled in to some Hot Hot Penny Reels O' Dublin for the night, and played until I was finally too tired to stay awake anymore, which was around 1 am.  After the previous night's lack of sleep, I was ready for bed.  Plus overall I was losing, so that didn't help anything.

Sunday, May 24th

We walked to the Venetian for breakfast at Bouchon.  I'd never been there before, and had never been in the Venezia tower, for that matter.  Beautiful space, and I love the detailing of this area of the Venetian.  We only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table at Bouchon, and enjoyed our copycat breakfast: omelets with hangar steak, mushrooms, and spinach, served with a side of fresh strawberries and sourdough toast.  Their strawberry jam was great, the toast was mom's new best friend, and we ate every bite again.  They serve fresh bread and butter at the beginning of the meal, and overall the whole experience reminded me of Mon Ami Gabi at Paris.  The prices, the atmosphere, the service - all of it reminded me of Mon Ami Gabi.  It's not as convenient as Mon Ami Gabi because you have to really walk to find it, but if you're on that end of the Strip and willing to walk to find it it's certainly worth a visit.

We did a little bit of gambling at the Venetian before wandering over to Palazzo.  Their Spring display was still up, and I enjoyed the lovely "dresses" on the ladies in the lobby and near the waterfall.  I always enjoy Palazzo's and Bellagio's use of natural elements in their displays.  I know Palazzo will have theirs changed soon for Summer/July 4th, so I'll be back again to check it out next trip.

I found a Sound of Music slot machine and thought, "Great!  I LOVE The Sound of Music!"  No, no, no.  Crappy slot, weird features, no Julie Andrews, and no SINGING whatsoever - what the hell is this?  Me no likey.  Mom and I did find some nice, quiet, old-school Gold Fish slots in a back corner, and contented ourselves there for awhile.

On to Wynn, which I love as a casino, but never have much  luck in.  I found another Titanic slot that let me play for a good, long time, and took advantage of that while my poor mom bounced around from machine to machine, looking for something friendly.  Not too much to be found there.  Time to take a cab down to Planet Hollywood.

I figured it made sense to take a cab all the way down there and work our way back to home, so that's what we did.  After a quick run to Bubba Gump's to get my cousin a replacement keychain, we made our way around the PH casino to find something - anything! - that would entertain us.  I could find nothing.  All the Wizard of Oz slots have been removed, as well as the Godfather slots, my favorite old school Lobstermania machine...all gone.  So many of the newer slots have features that I just don't care for, or just don't hold my interest.  I finally found another Hot Hot Penny Reels O' Dublin machine that let me win and win and...well, I got it up to $60, so that's good.  Hard to do on a penny machine sometimes.

On to Cosmopolitan, where mom found some of her beloved Fireball machines, and I chose to see if True Blood was any nicer here.  It was not.  This is certainly becoming a pattern, and one I don't care for.  We didn't spend too much time gambling, because it was painful.  Instead I took mom to China Poblano, where I had eaten before, to try some sui mai.  

Eclectic is the name of the game at China Poblano, which serves both Mexican and Chinese cuisine, and we had to a wait a few minutes for a seat at around 5:30 p.m.  Our service was spotty, as the waitress said she would bring out our food "as it is ready", and it was a random delivery at best.  We ordered chips and salsa to start, which I hadn't tried there before, and it was good stuff.  Mom had the Lucky 6 sui mai, and I had the scallop sui mai.  Mom also ordered a chicken chorizo taco and I ordered a mushroom and guacamole taco, which were both very good, but mom's taco came WAY after everything else.  For dessert we shared two paletas (ice cream bars): coconut and pineapple, and key lime.  OMG, those were delicious!  They had six total selections, and I can imagine that the others were just as good.

Over to Cromwell for some gambling.  We hadn't spent much time there since it's been changed from Bill's Gambling Hall.  Mom found VP at the back of the casino, and I played Lobstermania2.  All so-so gambling.  The Drai's Beach Party people were all leaving, and that's the most crowding we saw.  The casino is so pretty, but there's not much to do in there, and it is very sparse as far as machines go.  I guess they are really set up for Drai's daytime and nighttime parties with several lounge areas for such a small casino, and I can't imagine paying as much as you would for a room there compared to somewhere else with a less expensive restaurant or a buffet and possibly a show of some sort at the very least.

Flamingo is a mixed bag, too.  That was our next stop, and it seems like they've taken out most of the games I like to play, which is unfortunate for me.  Margaritaville next door does have some games I like, but at least everything in this area of the Strip is close together so you can move easily from one casino to the next.

Back to the Linq so that I could play Gold Fish 3.  These are definitely growing on me.  I do like many of the games in the Linq, but they can get crowded fast because it's not a huge casino.  Mom went back and forth to the Sports Book to see if the Cavaliers were losing (unfortunately they came back and won that night), but we didn't stick around for too long.

I ended the night at Harrah's bouncing around from game to game and finally having a pretty good run on Phantom of the Opera, but nothing that helped replenish my lost funds, and I was still pretty down for the trip.  Mom and I tried the new Captain Nemo Treasures machine together, and we had a hard time understanding what the hell was going on.  A couple of bonuses, but...me no likey.

Monday, May 25th

Going home day, but still an almost full day in Vegas.  Our flight didn't leave until 8:25 p.m., so we had time to roam.  First it was over to Bellagio Cafe' for breakfast, where mom had eggs over-easy and toast while I went all in for Maryland Crab Cakes Benedict, which were really yummy.  Served with hash browns that were perfect for dipping runny egg middles.  Mmmmm....

I also tried the new Rolling Stones slots.  Even though I got a couple of bonuses, in the end I realized I can't get no satisfaction.

Over to Caesars Palace to see if any of the games were any nicer today.  They were NOT, so I starting playing penny 50 Play VP to stop the bleeding.  I forget how long 50 Play VP lasts at the penny level.  Still not enough for me to make any comeback, but better than killing myself with slots didn't particularly care for.

I had a Disney World Haunted Mansion moment here, but they never started singing.

One more try for the Mirage, where I staged a mini-comeback with new Lord of the Rings bonuses:

We ended up back at Harrah's, and it wasn't too long after that I decided to take a long walk.  I was losing at everything I played, and it wasn't getting any better.  I left my mom to play VP contentedly by herself, since she was hitting 4OAKS on almost every machine, and walked down to Planet Hollywood, over to Cosmopolitan, and back again.

Once mom's VP fun was over, we switched to playing side-by-side Zuma slots before we headed to the airport.  At least they let us play for awhile!  Finally it was time to head for the airport, and another trip was almost in the books.

Our flight was actually on time and uneventful, but the flight from Vegas to San Antonio before us was apparently full of issues.  They should have been taking off around 5:30 or so, but they left and landed about 5 minutes before us!  I'm glad I wasn't on that flight.  As it was we landed at 12:35 a.m. and had to wait for another plane to leave our gate, so I got home at almost 2 a.m. and had to get up for work at 6 a.m. for work.  I won't be doing THAT again!

Final thoughts:

Phantom of the Opera and Titanic were much nicer to me on this trip.  I completely enjoyed the Gold Fish 3 slots (though not as much as the original) and the new Lord of the Rings slots (again, nothing can replace my all-time favorite LOTR original).  

I'm looking forward to my July 4th weekend trip and hoping that there are few new changes to enjoy, with lots of new food discoveries, as well.

Well, that didn't take very long!

The long-time Imperial Palace was re-named (and re-done) as The Quad in December 2012.  Now it will become The LINQ Hotel and Casino soon:

Ch-ch-changes!

Imperial Palace was my first Vegas home away from home, and I stayed there quite a few times in my first few years visiting Vegas.  It holds a lot of good memories for me.  With these latest changes - and if Caesars Entertainment is done re-working things for awhile - maybe I'll stay there again.  The photos make the rooms look very promising.  

I'll need to collect all things branded "The Quad" on my next trip in three weeks before they change over again.  I have quite a few items that say "Imperial Palace", in the newer earth tones and the classic blue and white that I first saw back in 1997.

Now to wait and see if I get any comps...

March 25-29 Trip Report

Tuesday, March 25th

Another day at work, another day in paradise.  If I HAVE TO go to work, then it's a really good thing when I get to take off work early, go pick up my mom, and go to the airport in order to fly to VEGAS!  There are worse things in life, are there not?  (That was a rhetorical question.)  

Once again I have a TON of photos.  I think I am going to do separate posts for the DaVinci exhibit, The Linq expansion, and the Liberace exhibit because I just went a little crazy with pics.

We were once again at Harrah's with mom's free rooms, so we put our stuff away, checked out our night view, and headed down to the Oyster Bar at Harrah's for dinner.

I think we both overlooked the Oyster Bar because we thought "they just serve oysters".  Wrong!  Very good food, and very reasonable.  Mom had the Cajun Scallops with pasta, and I had the Crab Louis Salad.  Very delicious food choices for us.  I also tried a drink called a 'Red Tide'-made with Belvedere Black Raspberry vodka, Chambord Black Raspberry liqueur, watermelon schnapps, orange juice, cranberry juice and fresh sour.  Yummy!

I tried the Ferris Buehler's Day Off slots at Harrah's.  I have to say that I really, really like them, and not because I won a lot of money on them, because I didn't.  They just have a LOT of different bonuses, and a random expanding 'Collossal Wheel', so you always have something interesting come up.  I played these every day, and had fun playing them, even when I didn't win, which was most of the time.

The nice lady at Harrah's Diamond check-in, Melissa, sent a Happy Birthday card up to the room while we were out.  Cute!  Mom is only Platinum and I am lowly Gold, so it was a nice gesture.

Wednesday, March 26th

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Mom's 65th birthday - a day of choices for her.  She decided to try The Henry at The Cosmopolitan for breakfast because I'd talked about it and she thought the Cinnamon Roll French Toast sounded good.  She got that and I got the California omelet, which had avocados and mushrooms and a side of breakfast hash browns that were like a delicious casserole.  All very good, but I will keep trying other things if I go back again because I like to try different breakfast stuff (and they do have several versions of Eggs Benedict on their menu, which is a bonus).

Tried the Back to the Future slots at Cosmo - I don't know if they were out in January, but I must have missed them.  I got to the bonus round 3 times, and picked the same dang train bonus every time.  I wanted to try the other stuff, but it was apparently impossible for me.  We saw Liberace's car, and I was pleased to see that the whole Liberace exhibit was still open, even though the website said it was supposed to close at the end of February.  Score!  The exhibit is open from 3-9 daily, and they take donations only, so there is no set admission price.  We made plans to come back the next afternoon, since we were going to be back for dinner at Holsteins on Thursday.  Mom found some Fireball slots that let her play for a while, and then we decided it was time to move on.  Windy, windy day outside!  Gusts to 50 MPH felt like you'd get knocked over, especially on the escalators.

On to Bellagio for Spring Conservatory photos.  Once again, I'm only "Meh!" on the design.  The 'tree house' was a bit boring, but I did like the Koi fish and the underwater cameras.  I think the caterpillars might have been new (or new to me), but most everything else was recycled.  Again, it's not that I don't like recycling, but there was nothing "Wow!" about it.  We found more Fireball slots to keep us happy for a bit, and I tried the Walking Dead slots, but they creeped me out too much to do more than play $20 through them.  I'm just not a fan of zombies overall.  No bonuses didn't help, either.  Tried to play more of the Phantom of the Opera, but he has apparently lost all love for me, as I discovered a cold shoulder by the Phantom at every casino.

We spent a bit of time in The Mirage, but found nothing that didn't just suck our money right up, which was unfortunate.  I really like The Mirage, but I can rarely hit anything in there.  We dropped plenty of money there before we headed over to Caesars Palace, where we enjoy pretty much everything.

Mom's choice for her birthday "linner" (lunch/dinner) was her favorite-est place in Vegas: Bacchanal Buffet.  This was my first time going to this buffet for something other than breakfast, and it was good as usual.  We like to pace ourselves through our Bacchanal buffet meals and seriously have lots of time between plates so that we are there for 2 hours or more, just chatting and enjoying the time, not rushing or trying to cram food into our faces.  Even so, with 2 hours in a buffet, you're bound to end up trying lots of food, even if it IS small plates!

Lobster Corn Chowder - good; nice and thick
Shrimp and grits - delicious!
Cold boiled shrimp - it is what it is, and that's okay
Lobster shooter - bleh! no likey!
Lobster and leeks - very good; lots of flavor
Brussels Sprouts with bacon - yum!
Truffle fries - very good; good seasoning
Mushroom and cheese polenta - absolutely yum!  cooked just right...
Cheeseburger slider - mine was delicious (mom didn't like hers - her top bun was too hard)
Truffle scalloped potatoes - unusual and very good; lots of flavor
Greek salad - unexpectedly spicy and delicious
Spicy edamame - spicy, crispy and flavorful
Sui mai - delicious as always (I am a sui mai addict)
Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai - too cold, not a lot of flavor - bleh!
Dim sum - good stuff, nice as firm, warm and delicious flavor in the pork
Crab sushi - very good, especially for a buffet
Raspberry tart - not a fan; it had chocolate, but it didn't taste like chocolate.  Gross...

They brought mom a plate with macaroons and other stuff (some good, some not), and "Happy Birthday Carolyn" on it.  Cute!

Gambling at Caesars afterwards was very bleh!  Nothing was hitting, and it was a very non-Caesars end to the day.  We played a long time before we decided to go over to The Quad and check out what was new, and we were glad we did.  Additional areas have been opened up, and there are more games to play.  I really like the flow of the casino now, and you can still see traces of Imperial Palace here and there.  I had good luck on the True Blood machines, which allowed me to play for quite a long time, but didn't hit any large bonuses then.

We ended the night back at Harrah's, and it was mostly crappy stuff for me.  I managed to try to lose ALL of my daily money in The Hangover slots before I FINALLY hit a great bonus on the Reels O'Dublin Hot, Hot Penny slot machine that I always have to play in Harrah's.  After a great bonus, I ended up cashing out $186 which left me down only $35 for the day.  It turned out to be  a really good thing, because I accidentally miscalculated my gambling money and forgot to bring one whole day's worth of gambling money.  WHAT???  Yes, it's true - so I saved myself by NOT losing much that day.

Thursday, March 27th

Mom decided she wanted to try Society Cafe @ Encore this morning.  I'd been there for breakfast during another solo trip, and I really enjoyed it.  Mom had a ham and mushroom omelet, and I had the Huckleberry Souffle' Pancakes.  Good stuff.  Once again, if I go back, I will try something different.  It's a beautiful restaurant, and I enjoy people-watching there.

I played some Rapunzel slots I'd never seen before.  They are pretty much the same as the Alice in Wonderland slots, so no big surprises there.  While I was playing that, mom hit a small progressive on a Triple Time Progressive slot machine that neither of us had ever seen before.  She has no idea what triggered it.

On to Wynn, where I tried the Avatar slots - not a fan.  I don't know if I just don't get them or what (I liked the movie), but I didn't enjoy the slots, even though I hit several bonuses.  I took a couple of photos of the carousel - no major Spring decorations here.

Palazzo was our next stop, and I HAD TO sit down and play the LAST of the classic Lord of the Ring slots that I think are around.  I enjoyed myself for quite a long time, playing on the same $20 and just enjoying the fact that they were the original slots that I love SOOOOOOO much!

At The Venetian, my first goal was to check out the DaVinci exhibit, which is $27.50 per person for non-Vegas residents (there is a student and Senior citizen discount available, too - I am neither).  I highly enjoyed the exhibit because I didn't realize how much DaVinci was really involved in.  I would recommend it to anyone and will post the photos from the exhibit separately.

We headed over to check out The Linq area and see the High Roller (not get on it!), which had a "soft opening" that week.  We wanted to check out the shops and restaurants so we could decide what looked interesting for future information.  Mom was happy, happy, happy to see the Ghiradelli shop open again.  The Sprinkles Cupcakes shop looks interesting but had a HUGE crowd inside.  For new food places, I wouldn't mind stopping into Haute Dog and the Flour and Barley restaurant for starters.

Next it was on to The Cosmopolitan to check out the Liberace exhibit.  As I said before, it's open from 3-10 p.m. daily, and they don't charge anything to see it.  They accept donations only.  I really enjoyed looking at everything.  I can't even imagine trying to put on those costumes and perform, but what a showstopper they had to be!   Loved it and glad I got to see it.

I found some more True Blood machines in the back, towards the Vesper Bar, but they were horribly mean to me.  I also tried some Beverly Hillbilly Millionaire slots, which were also not very nice to me before I gave up and decided I would try the Fireball slots at the front with mom.  
At this point we were starving because we didn't have a huge breakfast, and I'd made a reservation for Holsteins at 7:30 p.m. because OpenTable showed them unavailable for most of the afternoon and evening.  At about 6:30 p.m. our stomachs were starting to eat themselves, and we finally gave in and went up to the second floor to see if there was any way we could get in any earlier.  They found my reservation and were able to seat us at 7:00 p.m., instead (thank God!).

We both enjoyed Lobster Rolls from the "Small Bites" menu - me with extra fries and mom had hers with onion rings.  Soooooo good!  They come with cole slaw, but trust me when I say we ate EVERY BITE, including ALL of the Cajun popcorn appetizer they brought us.  I also tried a drink recommended by the waiter that's called a Ginger Julie - it has muddled mint and lemon, ginger beer, and Pendleton Canadian whiskey.  Smooth!  I could have had a second one easily.

We took a leisurely stroll back to The Quad, where I had excellent bonus rounds on True Blood and was a happy girl.  I doubt they will be my friend on the next trip, but we'll see.  Back at Harrah's after that, where I found the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (LOTR ROTK) slots I'd apparently missed because they were put over in the $1 slot area next to the sports book, and I don't play dollar slots, so why would I look for them there?  I played for a long, long time on them and actually hit several bonuses, which I'd been unable to hit before.  Nothing big or earth-shattering, but nice enough to keep me going for a while.  

Suddenly I had the urge to go back to The Hangover slots and give it ALL back, and then some!  what the hell is wrong with me?!?!?!  After all of that, I ended up way, way down for the day, and called it a night at almost 2 a.m.

Friday, March 28th 

Our last full day in Vegas.  We grabbed Starbucks coffee at the less crowded upstairs store in Harrah's for a hold-over until lunch.  We were planning on lunch AND dinner today, so no breakfast plans.  Make room for Vegas food!  

Back over to Caesars to see if the gambling was better today, and YES, it was!  I tried a Moo La-La slot I'd never seen before, back by the buffet, and I turned $20 into $120 over the course of...what?  An hour and a half or so?  I played for quite a long while and enjoyed it.  Cute machine.  Also found it at Paris later.

On to Gordon Ramsay Pub for lunch right at 11 a.m.  This was my absolute favorite meal of the trip!  The restaurant has a great atmosphere, the staff had wonderful "uniforms", and the food and drinks were excellent.  Mom had the Fish and Chips and I had the Bangers and Mash - one pork, one beef, and one chicken sausage, all well flavored and not huge portions, served over mashed potatoes and surrounded by a moat of onion soup.  Oh, it was so good!

I loved everything about this place, and I'm not a big fan of Gordon Ramsay himself.

I can't forget the drink because it had the best name of all - God Save the Queen!  It had Bombay London Dry Gin, Dubonnet Rouge, St. Germain, grapefruit juice and Peychaud's Bitters.  Stout!  Oh, it was good.  Also my favorite drink of the trip.  I will be back, because we were too stuffed to try the Spotted Dic for dessert, and that was part of the plan.

After lunch, I managed to play Gold Fish for a nice little triple-your-money win before we headed over to Flamingo to see if the machines had gotten any nicer since January (they had not).  I played Lobstermania 2 and got the minor progressive for $26, but it doesn't last long on a 60-cent per spin machine, y'know?

Over to The Linq and back to Ghirardelli's, where I managed to make a nice Tetris tower of chocolates in my one-price-fits-all box (hey, it was a challenge, and I accepted it) for $19.  Mom finally got her Ghirardelli chocolate fix, and she was a happy camper.  Back to The Quad for more True Blood slots, got the "Spin the Bottle" bonus at last and hit Lafayette's progressive on my first pick, with only one pick available.  Seriously, I am good at picking progressives if I get the choice in a bonus.

We took our chocolates back to the room so we could grab a cab over to Paris before dinner at Bubba Gump's (next to Planet Hollywood).  Mom's legs were kaput!  I found the Moo La-La slots again and had a fun time, outlasting several other people in the seat next to me, which is always fun.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is part of the Landry restaurant chain, and I enjoy most all of Landry's good stuff.  We like the atmosphere and feel it's kinda like Rainforest Cafe' meets Saltgrass with movie memorabilia.  Each table has two signs on it "Run Forrest Run" and "Stop Forrest Stop".  You leave it at "Run Forrest Run" if you're doing okay, but you change it to "Stop Forrest Stop" if you need something.  Cute! 

We will be back in December with Hayley, because she's already said she wants to go.  Mom had Lt. Dan's Drunken Shrimp (without the sauce), and I had the BLT Shrimp Salad.  Mom tried the Snapdragon Cabernet, and I had the Blood Orange Margarita.  Good choices all around again.  We decided we were ABSOLUTELY having dessert here and ordered the "Hook, Line, and Sinker" dessert trio:  Warm Bread Pudding (absolutely heavenly, with crispy edges and wonderfully warm), a biscuit with strawberries (unusual and very good), and a Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae, which is basically a giant, warm cookie topped with ice cream.  Ice cream was on top of everything, in fact, and that's never a bad thing.  We'll be having that again in December.

Cab back to Harrah's for the last night of desperate gambling!  I played around on all the usual suspects:  The Hangover, Lobstermania 2, Gold Fish, LOTR ROTK, Ferris Buehler's Day Off and even threw in some Quick Hits.  After all that, I was just down $50 for the day when we finally called it a night at almost 2 a.m.  We had a morning flight out, so we packed up and hit the hay.

Saturday, March 29th

We had a quick breakfast at Harrah's Cafe' and got to play a little more before we left.  I finally found a seat at the Wolf Run 2 slots but couldn't make anything happen, so it was one last round of Gold Fish before the airport.

Notes for the trip:  

Mom had tons of quads and aces with kickers, so she easily made Total Rewards Platinum for the year.  No royals for her on this trip, although I think she dealt herself a straight flush at least once if I remember correctly.  Even with all those quads, she left a lot of money there.  I am not at liberty to say how much, but it was a multiple of my loss, and I left about a third of my money there.

Next trip?  Not sure, but I am hoping to get in a quick solo trip sometime at the end of summer because I do like solo trips so much.  Mom, Hayley and I will be out again in December for the Christmas displays.  After that trip I will have officially been in Vegas during every month of the year.  It only took about 16 years to make it happen!
